Our story
Every great idea needs the right room to grow in. But anyone who wants to offer courses, workshops or coaching today runs into limits fast: inflexible leases, rigid monthly rents or high commissions and the endless work around bookings, invoices and payment tracking.
On the other side, great studios, ateliers and venues often sit empty for hours or days at a time while the fixed costs keep running.
This is exactly where we come in. We built a platform that has both sides' backs. We take the financial risk and the admin off solo entrepreneurs, and we help studio owners fill their space effortlessly.

How it all started
“Hi, I'm Julia, founder of Bonobo.”
The idea for Bonobo came to me in the middle of my parental leave. When you're out and about with a baby, you often see the world differently – and you meet all the people who pour their heart into running courses and training. But I kept noticing the same problem: finding the right room is a huge hurdle for a lot of self-employed people.
Five encounters, one pattern
- My midwifeCouldn't find a suitable room for her postnatal classes for ages and ended up in the community hall.
- My postnatal trainerRented space in our CrossFit box because she needed the right equipment and was just starting out on the side.
- My former yoga teacherWanted to run children's classes and couldn't find suitable rooms.
- A local restaurateurWas struggling financially while his venue sat empty during the day and the big back room went unused.
The hurdle of renting or running your own premises was often simply far too high. And that tends to hit exactly the people who deliberately choose to stay small and do their work with the most passion. On the other side are commercial landlords who could badly use the extra income.
Occasional subletting exists, but it usually comes with huge coordination effort, unease about the lack of guarantees, and the tedious chasing of payments. I wanted to bring these two worlds together. Bonobo grew out of that impulse.
And why Bonobo?
Bonobos live in matriarchal communities led by females. They're marked by an enormous capacity for empathy and always greet even strangers with open arms.
Those very values – trust, mutual support and a warm togetherness – are also the foundation our platform is built on.
